I AM A cURATOR OF LIFE'S MOMENTS. BY COMBINING ART, SCIENCE AND STORYTELLING, I HELP CREATE
memorable situations. it's the thread that connects everything i do. it's who i am.
BE THE CHANGE
Exceed expectations and be an agent for growth and change
This is my story, it's the essence of who I am and what makes me the kind of woman that I've become.
I guess you could say that I'm a "people pleaser". I connect the people in my life to the things that make a difference in the world and in doing so, I change their lives to be a part of the things that are extraordinary.
I’m a graduate of Harvard University '00 with a B.A. in Sociology. I’m known as KP to friends and colleagues - even after I officially became a Hunt in 2017.
I’m an active Localist - passionate about #yesphx, @dtphx and @cenpho and I find passion in everyday life.
I’m on the regional board of the American Cancer Society, a Vinnies Advisory Board Member with St. Vincent de Paul, a member of the Girl Scouts Arizona Cactus-Pine Council Badge Bash Committee and serve as a TGen (Translational Genomics Research Institute) Ambassador. I’m a proud graduate of Valley Leadership Class 34 and I was named one of Phoenix Business Journal’s 40 under 40 in 2016.
My life changed the most back in 2007 when I was traveling with a plastinated human foot in the trunk of my car. Seriously. At the time, I was the Marketing Director for a company that toured the globe with the highly popular, and often controversial, BODY WORLDS exhibitions. With BODY WORLDS, I was responsible for entering a market and learning everything that I could about it in order to create a unique buzz around the exhibition, leading to increased attendance and revenue.
“Leadership is like a science experiment: follow the scientific method, be skeptical with yourself but optimistic about the outcome, insert a healthy dose of humility, a fair amount of compassion, a dash of discipline and a metric ton of grit.”
When I hear the laughter of thousands of children echoing off the Science Center walls—I smile because I’ve played a part in making that happen.
And maybe one of those kids was inspired and will go on to find a cure for disease, travel to the outer reaches of the known universe or make a difference in the lives of others with a scientific advancement for which they are responsible and here is where the seed of that idea was planted.
In 2004 I had a professional epiphany. I encountered my first exposure to the barriers a young, female leader may face in their career while remaining true to their values and guiding principles.
I realized that my story could be about a girl that had a ton of fear and personal flaws and faced insurmountable obstacles, but did amazing things anyway.
To put it plainly, I learned that if I wanted to be the change, I needed to lean in, be brave and help pave the way for other women to be successful.
My stamina, creativity and strategic thinking during that exhibition's run in Phoenix led to an offer from Chevy Humphrey, the Hazel A. Hare President &CEO of Arizona Science Center. She had become an invaluable professional mentor and trusted friend during the four months that we worked side by side. I relocated from Boston to Arizona that summer (landing on the tarmac in 110 degrees) to join the Center's senior leadership team.
During my ten years at Arizona Science Center, I generated a cumulative earned revenue portfolio in excess of $20 million including management of 40 plus staff. In 2010 I was promoted to Senior Vice President of External Affairs, responsible for fundraising and strategic partnerships. Since 2010, I have helped raise over $18 million for the Center's informal education programs.
Things that inspire me.
My husband, Chris, inspires me every day. He is even-keeled, kind, funny and ambitious. He knows when to be silly and live in the moment and when to be serious and take responsibility by the horns. He reminds me to breathe, to slow down and to enjoy the moment. Time goes by so fast, it's important to enjoy all the little moments in life.
I curate everything - memories, moments, events, and even friends. My Instagram feed is evidence of that, as is my home. I am passionate about documenting both the everyday and the special. I choose items for my home because they are one of a kind, whimsical and beautiful.
I suppose in a way that's how I curate my friends as well. Each one is authentic, real, unique and talented.
Growing up on the East Coast (and as a Aquarius), the sea is a prominent influence in my aesthetic and in my soul. Grey, muted blue, sea glass green - these are the colors of my dreams and I make an effort to design with them in mind. Having lived in Arizona for the past decade, the influence of lush succulents, green mountains, red clay and desert simplicity have also creeped in.
Life is about authentic moments that are shared with the people we share this world with and who inspire you to be the best version of yourself.
That's the key: Be the best YOU you can be.
TO THE WORLD
Focus on the next right decision.
That's my mantra.
"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play it safers, the creatures of commonplace, the slaves of ordinary." - Cecil Beaton
